Welcome to our first Prayer Series blog! In this first blog, we hope that you’ll be encouraged and uplifted by praying for others – specifically for our parents. Why parents? One of our organization’s main goals is to bridge the gap between the two generations. Also, as children, one of the best ways to honor our parents is to pray for them.
In the Scripture, it says:
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—“so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:1-4, NIV)
As sons and daughters, we may often times overlook the hard work our parents put in to raising us and providing for us. Rarely do we stop and pray for specific areas of their lives. In the upcoming months, we hope that we would not only pray together, but also pray with a heart that seeks to encourage and uplift our parents as we fulfill our role as sons and daughters. Let us be intentional with our prayers as well – coming to God and thanking our Creator for the parents we have here on this earth. A few of the topics we will pray together for include praying for ourselves as sons and daughters, our parents’ salvation, harmony in family, and seasons of our parents’ lives.
We are reminded by pastor Kyle Shimazaki – the speaker of this year’s Faith Seminar – that we are to be missional christians; to live our lives with the intention to serve daily and to reach out to others. A way to practice being missional is by praying – to pray without ceasing, as mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
We invite you to pray along with us and ask God to help us in these areas as we dive into this:
- A prepared heart to dedicate a few minutes of our day to pray for our parents
- Patience and provision as we try to understand and honor our parents
- God’s wisdom and love
- Asking God to help us be missional – not just toward our friends or peers, but in our families as well.
Will you pray along with us as we go into this series? We encourage you to share these prayer points, along with future ones, with your friends so you may pray with each other. Perhaps you can pray together with your parents as well! Every other month, we will share a new blog post with sharings from our writers with different prayer topics.
Stay tuned for our next one!
