Understanding those who struggles with same-sex attractions

(2010 March Newsletter)

Maggie Hui

On November 14, 2009, nearly 150 young adults representing different churches gathered to hear testimonies of the demonstration of God’s love to those with same-gender attraction. The room at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills was decorated in a cozy coffee-house style with a spread of snacks, including a chocolate fountain, and gourmet coffee.

The evening began with worship led by The Troy Lee Band followed by testimonies from Sarah Yang and Josh Wenig. They shared how their lives were transformed from their former gay lifestyles by the power and love of God. Sarah has a ministry that takes her to share the gospel across the U.S. and Asia. Josh is currently the worship pastor at a local church, happily married and recently blessed with a son. They challenged the audience to look to God in their struggles, no matter what their circumstances may be.

The third speaker at Hope & Love is Alan Shlemon, a speaker and apologist with the organization Stand To Reason. He shared what the Bible teaches about homosexuality, and how Christians are to show both love and truth to those with same-gender attractions. A recording of the evening’s presentations is available on CD. You may pre-order DVD as well. Please refer to the resource page to order your copy.

Due to the positive response to Hope & Love, Presence Ministry will be holding similar events to address relevant subjects that young people face in today’s culture. Please contact our office if you would like more information.
